Eleven 'scientific works' written in prison, disputed sentence reductions and conditional release

Conviction

During his imprisonment, Voiculescu produced eleven works classified as scientific, allowing him to receive sentence reductions under the legislation then in force. The DNA strongly disputed whether the works had genuinely been written as claimed, pointing to the speed of production and suspicions of plagiarism in at least one work.

Repeated Senate resignations change court jurisdiction in ICA case

No legal proceedings

Voiculescu repeatedly resigned from the Senate during the ICA proceedings, causing jurisdiction to shift between the High Court and the Bucharest Tribunal according to his parliamentary status. A prosecutor characterised the repeated resignations as an abuse of rights, while opponents considered them a delaying tactic potentially bringing the case closer to the limitation period.
