Pierre Bérégovoy

French prime minister (1925–1993), former economy minister and mayor of Nevers.

Prime minister under François Mitterrand in 1992–93, Pierre Bérégovoy defended a strong franc and made unemployment his priority amid recession and criticism. A 1993 disclosure of an interest-free personal loan from Roger-Patrice Pelat triggered questions about transparency, without an established personal criminal conviction. He died in May 1993.
