Paul VI led the Church from 1963 to 1978 and completed Vatican II. His decisions on contraception, sexual ethics, women’s ordination and liturgical reform prompted lasting debate. His conflict with Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre involved internal Church discipline, not a civil criminal conviction of the pope.
