Judicial reforms under her government: regression criticised by European Commission and Parliament

No legal proceedings

Under the Dăncilă government and the PSD–ALDE majority, several changes to judicial legislation and criminal law continued. The European Commission concluded that the changes had placed pressure on judicial independence and anti-corruption efforts, while the European Parliament expressed deep concern.

Jerusalem embassy relocation memorandum and institutional conflict with President Iohannis

No legal proceedings

Following Dăncilă's visit to Israel without what the presidency considered sufficient coordination, Klaus Iohannis publicly called for her resignation and maintained that foreign policy constitutionally required institutional coordination with the head of state.

Series of public and diplomatic gaffes, including confusion between Podgorica and Priština

Dăncilă's term was marked by numerous widely reported linguistic and protocol errors. During an official visit to Montenegro in July 2018, she notably declared herself pleased to be in Priština when she was in Podgorica, a particularly sensitive mistake given that Romania did not recognise Kosovo's independence.
