2018 recording expressing remorse and acknowledging responsibility for murders

Conviction

A recording made in prison and disclosed in 2018 showed Huntley saying that he thought about Holly and Jessica every day, was deeply sorry and knew he would probably never be released. The statement contrasts with the lack of remorse emphasised at his original sentencing.

Bichard Inquiry: Major reforms to information sharing and vetting of people working with children

Investigation

The Bichard Inquiry found serious failures in retaining and sharing intelligence, police vetting and school recruitment that had allowed Huntley to obtain a position at a school despite his history of allegations. The report recommended a national intelligence system, a data-management code and stronger checks for employment involving children.
